A closer look at our styled wedding shoot around Jackson Square in New Orleans.

When working in a creative field, sometimes we have ideas that come to mind, but with such a busy schedule, we have no time or space to execute them. We envision wedding scenes we’d like to capture if all the decisions were up to us. We were excited to explore our creativity in an unbridled way — to truly display what we were capable of capturing. This shoot around Jackson Square in New Orleans was such a fun way to collaborate with vendors on creative ideas, without the pressure of wedding day.

We had toyed with the idea of doing a styled shoot in New Orleans for quite a long time. From brief discussions blossomed intricate ideas we knew we wanted to execute. The Race + Religious venue space in New Orleans had sat at the top of our bucket list, so we reached out to talented local vendors to help us carry this out. 

To capture the exquisite history of Race + Religious, our styled shoot backdrop, we partnered with local vendors, who were each able to put their unique touch on different details of the shoot. 

Ellen of Ellen Thomas Event Design worked side by side with us to incorporate each of the vendors and help us create a vision for the shoot that would highlight each of our vendors. With the eclectic setting of Race + Religious, Ellen designed a scene that helped enhance all the details that made the venue beautiful.

She had already had Race & Religious in mind for the venue so once I came on board we focused mainly on the design and what we wanted our clients to take away from the shoot. The space is a beauty in itself so the design aspect came easy. Rosewood Row, an online boutique spotlighting elegant gifts handmade by female designers and fine artists, contributed bridal robes from its specially curated collection for this styled shoot. Founder Sara Shaw said that, while she enjoyed providing the delicate french lace robes from Girl and a Serious Dream for the shoot, she was also thrilled to collaborate with other talented women.

Dee Rouzan, owner and senior beauty expert for Faces of Virtue Beauty Studio, helped highlight the models’ stunning natural features with two simple yet striking makeup looks. Along with her senior hairstylist, Kayla Nelson, the duo focused on creating looks that were effortless and elevated. Our models, Kendra and Ashley, helped bring our vision for this shoot to life. Without much instruction but plenty of trust, the women of Faces of Virtue perfectly balanced the beauty of our models and the venue. 

The day didn’t end at Race + Religious. Our creativity continued to the historic streets of New Orleans and the iconic Jackson Square.

Styled shoots like these allow us to expand our horizons to provide our brides and grooms with exactly what they envision for their wedding while also elevating the work of other innovative local vendors.
